There was little doubt…I pretty much knew Christian Siriano was going to win this Season’s Project Runway from the first episode. Michael Kors and Nina Garcia have been fawning over His Ruffle-ness from the get-go. Did he make any pieces without ruffles or feathery-things? Hmmm…..might be as futile as finding something in Rami’s collection that wasn’t draped.
It seemed a weensy bit set up to me. Victoria Beckham who is his self-professed body form inspiration just happens to be the guest judge. She even managed to pry her Posh little lips in a horizontal semi-grimace (read: smile) when his looks came down the catwalk. After the winner is announced Victoria offers to be Christian’s celebrity endorsement body - he just has to make sure it’ll fit any ten year old, or it ain’t gonna hang on that skinny ass.
I was pretty bummed for Jillian, I loved her collection because it was innovative and looked like it could swing with the big boys, without getting too couture-costumey. How many women are going to walk down the street with a six foot long mega-fluff muff wrapped around and around their necks? Besides Posh I mean…
I thought Jillian might have a chance until Michael Kors started praising her knit wear, saying she really knew how to design for a woman and that it was sexy and wearable. When Michael starts saying “wearable” I know it’s the kiss of death…
Rami’s really talented technically but that guy seems to be suffering from a little color disphoria. Didn’t really care for the red/black combos.
And now of course, “Fierce” will have its 15 seconds of catchphrase fame ala Paris Hilton’s “That’s Hot” of 2003… sigh.
At least Christian’s hair seemed to have calmed down a little bit for the season finale – I guess his version of a bedhead goes in reverse, it’s actually gets flatter instead of sticking straight up. One shot showed him backstage trying to perk it up with a little Aqua Net action, but maybe his hair was nervous too.
I shouldn’t rag on him too much – he’s 21 years old and has shown at New York Fashion week. In the words of Larry David, “Pretty – Pretty – Pretty Good”
